Herbal Medicine – A Short Guide to Alternative Medicine

October 29, 2015 By Jenna Phillips

Alternative medicine refers to the different treatment, remedies, and therapy that is not considered or categorized as standard care or Western medicine. Alternative medicine is geared towards providing patients with natural remedies that will help improve health and overall well-being. Alternative medicine relies on systems that were created thousands of years ago and are now categorized as traditional medicine. What sets alternative medicine apart from Western and modern medicine is that alternative medicine is focused on healing the patient as a whole, instead of going after symptoms individually. This is done in order to help balance the patient’s physical and emotional levels and to promote self-healing.

Today, more people are using alternative medicine together with, or as a replacement for, standard medicines, but they don’t provide the same medicinal results. Alternative medicine is reliant not only on medicinal herbs but also on different mind and body techniques that will treat various ailments like heart problems, insomnia, depression, panic disorders, anxiety attacks, and chronic pain, just to name a few. Let’s take a look at some of these mind and body techniques:

– Hydrotherapy is an alternative treatment which involves the use of water both externally and internally to prevent diseases and improve health. Though the Romans were the first to introduce spas into the world, modern hydrotherapy can be traced back to Father Sebastian Kneipp, who believed that water has the ability to remove, strengthen, and dissolve.

– Acupuncture is also a popular alternative treatment which involves a series of procedures that stimulates different points of the body and is the key component of traditional Chinese medicine. Acupuncture involves the use of thin needles and piercing it through the skin to stimulate different parts of our body that will “enable” us to achieve overall well-being, to relax, or to treat certain illnesses. These energies are believed to flow in a river-like pattern within our body and these needles can redirect these flows to treat illnesses and symptoms or to improve our body’s healing abilities.

Though it’s difficult to pinpoint the efficacy of alternative medicine, people are geared towards achieving good health by means of natural remedies. Alternative medicine has been around for thousands of years, and compared to Western medicine, it’s relatively older and has established almost a millennium tradition. However, it is important to note that alternative medicine may or may not work for others, given that our bodies react differently. Before you decide on using alternative medicine, consult with your physician first.

Understanding the Benefits of Acupuncture

October 15, 2015 By Jenna Phillips

Acupuncture is a well-known method in alternative medicine nowadays. How much do you know about it? Are you aware of the great benefits of acupuncture? Is this form of therapy suitable for you? Hopefully, this article can help you better appreciate acupuncture.

Get ready for a couple needles. You can’t avoid needles during acupuncture. You will greatly benefit from acupuncture and probably get over your fear of needles very quickly. Get comfortable with the idea or you could become more stressed about it than you need to be.

Eat a light meal before your appointment. Being hungry or overeating may interfere with your results. But don’t go in on an empty stomach either. If you do, you risk the chance of becoming dizzy and nauseous.

Just like anyone else who does medicine, there are great acupuncturists as well as ones that do poorly. Research their record with the BBB and read online reviews to see what people are saying about them. As with any other time you choose a healthcare professional, it pays to be thorough and shop around for the best acupuncturist for you.

If you want to try acupuncture as a way to resolve pain and discomfort but are afraid of needles, see what you can do to cure your phobia. This is a great treatment that helps reduce the pain that you feel. Do not let apprehension prevent you from living a pain-free life! Make sure to research trusted local acupuncture practitioners.  Check out expert chiropractor Winston-Salem treatments today.

Consultations are important to have before availing your treatment. The acupuncturist should listen to you describe your symptoms. Let them know everything that is going on. Also, tell them how it is affecting your day to day life. Anything that you can tell the acupuncturist will help them to come up with your treatment plan.

Try to find an acupuncturist whose treatments are covered by your health insurance policy. By determining insurance coverage in advance, you will have the ability to concentrate just on treatment once your sessions start. That will leave you relaxed for your treatments.

Hopefully, you’re able to feel more at ease about your choice to get acupuncture done in the future. You should pay attention to the information in this article in order to understand acupuncture’s many benefits such as getting rid of back pain. You will be happy you read this article when you go in for your first treatment.

Coping With Diabetes

September 22, 2015 By Jackie

A lot of people assume that a diagnosis of diabetes prevents them from living normal, fulfilling functional lives. The helpful hints in the following paragraphs will educate you on diabetes management and how you can live a virtually normal life.

In modern times, you can find diabetics anywhere. This makes injections far more convenient than if you had to find a private place, and knowing that most people are comfortable with diabetic procedures should allow you to feel more comfortable too.

Consuming a diet high in fiber can reduce the risk of developing diabetes. White breads and processed food items usually are high-glycemic and up your chances of diabetes, but if you make a habit of choosing anything with whole grains, you are unlikely to eat them. There are many studies that show that people who eat whole grains, and low-GI foods in general, get diabetes less often than those who don’t.

A pedicure can be dangerous if you have diabetes. It is frequently difficult for diabetics to have successful healing of foot injuries. Even a small cut received during a pedicure could cause problems and complications.

Watch what you eat. Different food affect your glucose levels differently, so you need to closely monitor what you eat. The amount of insulin that needs to be injected depends on the size of the meals eaten. Larger meals require more insulin. If you are careful with your eating, though, you can efficiently manage your blood sugar levels.

If you are hypoglycemic, you should always have gum or some other type of sugary food handy. Hypoglycemic attacks can happen anywhere, and you need to be prepared. This is even more likely if you skip breakfast and need sugar in your system.

It is helpful to eat small meals five to six times a day, instead of three square meals. When you have more frequent meals during the course of the day, your glucose level can be better stabilized. If you eat more frequently it also helps keep binging away and keeps you feeling satisfied.

If you do have gestational diabetes, your doctor can help you control it using both prescription medication and dietary changes. Talk to a physician immediately if you have any vision problems. Diabetics can experience some unique eye and vision issues in their lives. For Cary internal medicine expert, check out Triangle Doctor.

Unless your doctor has given you different instructions, fast-acting insulin should be taken between one and 15 minutes before you eat. This insulin helps your blood sugar stay at a proper level when it is used properly. But it needs to be dosed and timed out properly.

Do not allow living with diabetes to become a complicated thing. Focus on the tips you’ve read in this article, in order to make living with diabetes a simple day-to-day routine that you can easily incorporate into your life. If you can follow these tips, you’re on your way to wellness.
